Large Diameter Cyclic Triaxial Testing System Installation at BGC’s New Advanced Geotechnical Laboratory in Fredericton, Canada

In February, GDS completed the installation of their Large Diameter Cyclic Triaxial Testing System at BGC Engineering Inc (BGC) New Advanced Geotechnical Laboratory in Fredericton, Canada

The system will expand BGC's testing capabilities of this state-of-the-art facility to test samples of up to 300 mm diameter and 600 mm height. Configured around GDS 250kN Hydraulic Load Frame, the system had several custom designed upgrades to ensure it meets all of the customers requirements, such as increased cell pressure capacity to 3MPa with fully dynamic control and a special oversized pedestal and top cap set, that will reduce influence of the end boundary conditions on the stress distribution of the tested sample.

Additionally the base pedestal and top cap set will allow for the sample to be sealed post-test and easily moved into the large freezer to measure the final moisture content of the specimen. The images above show the customers designed and manufactured split former.
