March 2014, one of GDS’ agents contacts the sales team asking if their customers' 20+ year old advanced controller could be re-commissioned? The controller was in use up until a few years earlier. However, since its last project the controller had been left on the shelf. As with all enquiries of this nature, GDS were happy to assess the controllers condition and provide a quote to get the controller back into service.
Initial assessments identified that the controllers cylinder, piston, gearbox, motor and box were in good working order, this meant that it was financial beneficial to the customer for the controller to be upgraded and re-commissioned as opposed to buying a new advanced controller. The build quality, system components and with good maintenance from the customer, has meant the controller provided over 20 years’ of service, and it wasn’t about to stop there.

Fig 1. Initial assessment revealed it was possible to re-commission the 20+ year old controller. |
Our engineer set about upgrading the controller, a new power supply, wiring, PCB and filter switch were installed into the box, bringing the apparatus up to the current health & safety standards. After a new transducer was fitted the controller was serviced and calibrated before being returned to the customer. The controller is now back being used in the field and our customer is happy his 20+ year old controller is working like new.

At GDS we often see older equipment being used in the field and we feel it is great testament to our product design and build that it is still performing to the high standards we set ourselves.
Please Note: It may not be possible to re-commission all old GDS equipment.
