Diogo Teles a QA, Support and Installation Engineer from GDS Instruments, has recently returned from ITB Bandung in Indonesia, where he installed a GDS Enterprise Dynamic Triaxial Testing System (ELDYN).
The research institute will be using the apparatus to produce an earthquake risk assessment of hazardous regions in the country.
Having sustained a volcano-triggered tsunami in December, the country is all too aware of the devastating impact of such natural disasters.
The research institute chose the ELDYN because it allows a cylindrical specimens to be saturated and consolidated to approximate in-situ ground conditions, before monotonic or cyclic loading stages are applied, the latter modelling the stress conditions induced by earthquake shaking. We wish them well their research and hope the data can be used to have a positive impact within the region.
